Emergency development of Woocommerce for shop.yellowline.studio

In August 2024, I was approached with an urgent task: a well-known Moscow studio and manufacturer of modern goods needed to move its website. The reason was that the Ecwid platform had decided to leave Russia.

Several relocation options were considered, such as platforms like Insales. But after calculating the budget, we came to the conclusion that it would be more profitable to move to WordPress+Woocommerce (and in addition to the financial benefits, we would have access to any code and design edits).

During the work, all product cards and purchase data were transferred and formatted, with receipts preserved. NS records were rewritten and an SSL certificate was issued, which was not easy for a subdomain.

Payment systems (Robokassa) and delivery calculation systems (SDEK) were connected.

A solution was developed for the site that allowed customers to choose a pickup time depending on the physical store’s hours.

The whole process took about a week!

Surprisingly, as soon as we transferred the site, Ecwid blocked all data. It even blocked the Dashboard, which could not be accessed from another country or via VPN. One can only imagine how many Ecwid customers lost all their data in one day.

Yes, it’s worth noting that Ecwid announced the block a month in advance. But, as a rule, platforms block visitors’ access to the front end. This is the first time I’ve seen them block access to data on the back end.

All’s well that ends well.
